Galera is Portuguese slang for tribe, crew, or gang. Of the three professional surfers portrayed, two are of Brazilian origin, one Puerto Rican. Their paths converged in Uluwatu — the southernmost tip of Bali, Indonesia — where, in the early months of 2020, they surfed, trained, and shared life in and out of the water. I was fortunate enough to meet them and, through their presence, gain a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be at one with nature — with water.

I set out to capture their essence exactly as it was in that moment: unfiltered, vibrant, and alive. Some could not stop laughing — their high spirits contagious — and that joy naturally echoed through my lens. Each of them is an extraordinary soul, and I am endlessly grateful for the time shared.
